Step 3: Training

The more you know, the better.

Training, or Military Lifestyle, is an ongoing process that permeates each step of your Guard Member’s military career. This step prepares you for Step 4: Pre-Deployment , but it is also a step in Family Readiness that can be taken before, during, or after deployment. Some trainings help build an understanding of military life and military expectations. Others focus on military benefits and resources available to the family.

Educational Programs

The Army Family Team Building (AFTB) program is a volunteer-led organization with a central tenet: provide training and knowledge to spouses and family members to support the total Army effort. It is AFTB's mission to educate and train all of the Army in knowledge, skills, and behaviors designed to prepare our Army families to move successfully into the future.

The Air Force Family Readiness Edge is a total force community resource directory designed to assist members of the Integrated Delivery System (IDS) to support family members whose sponsors are involved in deployment and mobilization. The Air Force Family Readiness EDGE lists and describes Air Force and their resources, their web sites and telephone numbers for family assistance.

In addition, your Family Program Office offers local training events and activities that can assist with everything from legal questions to life organizational skills to helping you set up an Army Knowledge Online (AKO) email account or your Guard Knowledge Online (GKO) email account.
