Family
members of National Guard and Reserve members are eligible for different TRICARE
benefits depending on their status:
- On military duty for 30 days or less
- When activated
- If activated in support of a contingency operation you qualify for additional
benefits.
- When deactivated
- Guard Members and Families of the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) may purchase
the TRICARE Dental Program, but usually do not qualify for any other health benefits
when not on active duty orders or immediately following a period of activation.
Is your Guard Member Title 10 or Title 32?
There is a difference in benefits between
Title 10 and Title 32. Please see definitions below and call your Family Program
Office for details.
- Title 10: National service in missions commanded by and funded by the federal
government
- Title 32: Service under the command of the state governor
- Title 32 – Section 502(f): National Guard are allowed to be called up for
federal service, while remaining under the control of the governor
